Kaoani is a Japanese smiley face, usually animated and bouncing up and down. They may be gif images or text art images. I think they began as text art, using Japanese fonts, and become graphic images using animation.

I came across this flappy dragon today while working on an another unrelated ASCII. I was hoping it would turn out better in ASCII.
The body shape is ok. The face is too small for it. Wings are always tricky and I never get them quite right. But, I can try again another day.

I have a grandfather clock and a cuckoo clock on my to-do list. A sundial too. I’m retro that way.
Really sad to see clocks and watches disappear due to mobile phones.
I’m posting Joan’s clock as inspiration for myself. I tend to start smaller images than this and then find it difficult to get all the trimmings in. I do have a good clock face already. So I could build the clock around it. Not for the cuckoo clock maybe. That would be smaller. Will see whenever I get them done.
I got the idea to make ASCII art avatars today. But, so far I’ve found it harder than expected. To give me room to add features I would need to make them bigger. I usually make small things. Here are two I made from my original ASCII girl avatar. (A nurse and a librarian or school teacher).
But, I couldn’t make any changes to her face, like adding eyeglasses. If she were horizontal the 8 would be great but… she isn’t. So back to the drawing board on the avatar idea.
My best efforts at making Wapuu, the WordPress character, in ASCII art. This was after a lot of fiddling. I had a face I liked much better but I took it out to try to make the shape right. Of course, that messed it all up and then I ended up with this face. Still good but I think my first face was cuter.
I know it isn’t exactly right. I had to pose it on a different angle and I like the ears this way (they also worked out much better because they don’t look like big warts on its head instead of ears).
I was inspired to work on this today because I just noticed this on my WordPress.com account. Posted sometime last year.
