Remembrance Day Poppy

Remembrance Day matters. I didn’t make something new this year. I’ve done about all I can come up with for poppies in the North American style and the English style. Maybe next year I will come up with a fresh idea, or spend time colouring the poppy wreath.

Happy Halloween ASCII Text Art

There’s something special about Halloween. It’s not the trick or treating, the spooky art work, the crafty and crazy costumes or the chocolate and candy gluttony. It’s a little of each of those but mainly, it’s magic. Halloween isn’t a simple, family holiday. It’s not a Christian tradition, Halloween has older roots. I think the reason Halloween is still just a bit scary is the fact that it is a holiday based on older things, mysterious to us now.

Haunted Houses in ASCII Text Art for Halloween

Not Quite the Typical Haunted House

I’m an urban explorer. I believe (firmly) in the “Take only photos, leave only footprints” method of exploring. If you look for photographs of old houses online you will find lots of them. Most people looking at the photos will be looking for something spooky, creepy and haunting. They seem to want to find ghosts.

I’ve never had a ghostly or haunted experience while exploring an abandoned house here in Ontario. I don’t doubt those who say they have. But, my experience is different. Maybe it’s in the way I approach the whole thing. I’m not looking for a scare or a mystery or a thrill. I just love the old places for what they are. I like the history and the construction and the way it all weathers through time. I am genuinely sad when one of the houses/ places I have explored is vandalized or demolished.

Of all the Halloween creations traditionally drawn or otherwise crafted, I like the Witches and haunted houses best. I think the houses are easier to make in ASCII Art. There are great examples of haunted houses here. Maybe you will feel yourself inspired to create an ASCII art haunted house after seeing these.
