The Christmas ASCII Text Art House

Home for the Holidays is a well known theme for Christmas and in Christmas music and movies. There are even movies poking fun at decorating the house for Christmas. Some people go all out and it looks fabulous but it must cost them a fortune on their next bill from the power company. I appreciate the show they make.
There is nothing quite like seeing a house all done up, decorated and well lit, for the Christmas holidays.
I also love to see the Christmas village scenes. We never collected anything like that when I was a kid. So I lived vicariously through shopping malls everywhere. There was always a display set up in the mall, showing off the Christmas village and all the parts and pieces which could be collected to add to your village each year.
I created ASCII art of a Christmas house and the Christmas village. I even decorated my fireplace with the Christmas village, a smaller collection than many. But, none of them are in ASCII art.

One thing I did have was a snowglobe collection. I had three of them which I pulled out each Christmas. Others were not Christmas related. My Dad traveled for business for awhile, he brought me back a couple of snowglobes from far away. Eventually they were all lost, or thrown out when the water dried up or leaked out from inside them. Maybe the expensive snowglobes lasted longer. I hope so.

Snowmen and Snow People in ASCII Text Art

The snowman is more than a Christmas tradition. We can make snowmen and snow people, snow villages even, all winter – as long as there is snow on the ground to roll up and stack. How do you decorate your snowmen? Do you keep a hat and scarf set just for your snowman, each year? Do you even have a pipe?

Snowmen are fairly easy to make in ASCII art. They can be made fancy by adding more details. It’s easier to add details on a larger sized snowman, of course. Give your Frosty some buttons, a scarf, a hat, a pipe, some mittens, a shovel, a broom, a hockey stick and puck, anything you can imagine creating. Make the snowman your own personal creation!

Think about what your favourite things about winter (sports, travel, decorating…?) are then add them to your snowman. You can take it out of the box and make a mug for hot chocolate then decorate it with a snowman. Don’t think you have to follow any standard pattern. As long as you can still recognize it as a snowman, or woman.

One nice thing about creating an ASCII art snowman… you don’t have to go out into the cold!

Snowflakes in ASCII Text Art

Snowflakes in ASCII art can be lacy, delicate, mathematical creations. When they turn out well they look fantastic. But, getting there isn’t so simple. Any time you try to match opposite sides or top and bottom in ASCII art you have the challenge of handling characters that don’t fit together perfectly, with equal spacing between them. Confused? Try making a snowflake and you will soon understand.

A snowflake is a beautiful thing.

I love walking home in the snow. Not a blizzard with snow and ice, I’m not quite that crazy. Just that nice lazy snowfall, where the sun comes out and sparkles over the snow and the flakes still coming down are fat and float through the air like they have all day to land down on the ground. You can see the shape of those big snowflakes. I like to see how unique they are from each other. Some will be missing a part, they won’t be as perfect as snowflakes are drawn or made in ASCII art.
